On September 6th, 1394, Dr. Robert Langer attended Sharif, reported CINVU. He is known as the most cited man in the world of engineering; he has more than 1300 publications, more than 1000 patents, and more that 300 institutes initiated by his efforts. He is one of 4 living individuals to have received both the United States National Medal of Science (2006) and the United States National Medal of Technology and Innovation (2011). Professor Robert S. Langer, one of the 25 most important individuals in biotechnology in the world, received Kazemi Prize in a ceremony in Royan Research Center, Tehran.
Dr. Langer’s tour at Sharif started at 8:30 when he visited Chemical Engineering (Biotechnology Center) and Electrical Engineering Departments. From among the attending scholars Dr. Akhavan Dr. Abdekhodaei, Dr. Saeedi and Dr. Vosoughi posed questions and said that they were hopeful to have further interaction with Dr. Lang and his Lab partners especially in terms of his research regarding stem cells.
Royan Institute Center for Stem Cells was in charge of this whole program and their representative pointed to the already existing collaboration with Sharif and hoped to have Langer joint this group and they can form a triangular collaboration for further achievements. Dr. Langer discussed the importance of interdisciplinary centers that are exploiting the knowledge of scientists and engineers and their receiving a more practical and efficient results; therefore he suggested having such centers as many as possible to help the university faculty in exploring new scientific and technological achievements.
Kazemi Prize is an international Prize which was established in 2010 to respect the efforts and revive the memories of Dr Saeid Kazemi Ashtiani; the late founder of Royan Institute. Kazemi Prize is awarded to a scientist or scientists who have made an outstanding contribution to biological sciences and health promotion. It shall consist of a medal, a diploma, and a cash award. The Prize is awarded once a year during the Royan International Research Award prize ceremony in Islamic Republic of Iran.
